Meta-owned microblogging platform Threads rolled out a new feature, Account Status, on Friday. It was available earlier only on Instagram but is now extended to Threads. The feature is intended to provide users with greater transparency and details about their profile and post status.

This feature enables users to view which of their posts or replies are in violation of community standards of Threads and the action taken against them. Users may verify this status at Settings > Account > Account Status.

Any one of these four actions can happen:

  • Removed content- The post has been completely removed.
  • What can't be recommended- Your post or profile will not be included in the recommendations of Threads.
  • Content lowered in feed- The visibility of your post has been reduced.
  • Features you can't use- The use of some features has been limited.

If the user believes an incorrect step has been taken with their post or their profile, then they can file a complaint. The company would check the complaint and notify of the outcome in an alert. Meta claims they value freedom of expression on their platform, but there have also been restrictions made for things like authenticity, dignity, privacy, and security.

If the content is significant from the public interest or news perspective, then in certain situations it can be accepted even though it goes against the policy, though in situations where language is ambiguous or indirectly objectionable, yet there is potential damage from its context, the company can delete the content.
