Govt Warns Against Fake News on Aadhaar Changes, Urges Public to Trust UIDAI Updates
The government has dismissed reports of changes to the Aadhaar card format as fake, clarifying that no such proposal is under consideration. Furthermore, the Supreme Court will hear a petition seeking strict guidelines to prevent intruders and the issuance of Aadhaar cards only to children up to 6 years of age.
The government is clarifying that the reports regarding modifying the Aadhaar card into a photograph and QR code are baseless. No such proposals have been considered by the government.
An official statement has been issued by the Ministry of Electronics & IT, which says that the news articles and social media postings regarding changes in the Aadhaar card design are baseless and misleading.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said on Sunday, "From time to time, news reports and internet media posts are suggesting that the Aadhaar format may change to just a photo and QR code by the end of this year. This is not true. No such change is planned. Such news reports and internet media posts are creating unnecessary confusion in the minds of people."
