Dedicated Freight Corridor sets record, operates 391 trains in January 2025
Indian Railways: The Railway Ministry said that in January 2025, the Dedicated Freight (DFC) corridor operated 391 trains, including 209 on the Eastern Corridor and 182 on the Western. This achievement reflects the increasing role and efficiency of DFC in freight transportation.

The Railway Ministry, in a statement, revealed that the Dedicated Freight (DFC) corridor saw a record in January in terms of operations in terms of freight trains. As per the ministry, it sets a new benchmark for India's transportation and logistics capabilities.
The ministry further added that during these three years, an average of 209 trains moved through the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) and 182 trains moved through the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).
In a statement, the Railway Ministry stated that such an achievement attests to the increased use of DFC for effective and unobstructed haulage of goods and re-affirms its role as a backbone for the development of industries and the economy.
It said Meja Urja Nigam Pvt Ltd joined DFCCIL at the siding of New Unchadih on 9 December 2023. In January 2025, 125 rakes (railer sets of coaches) were handled, a record high to date. It reflects the enhanced capacity of DFCCIL in terms of service for industries' demand.
The statement said, 'The DFC corridor played a vital role in ensuring smooth and efficient movement of passenger and freight trains during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj Division. With millions of devotees expected to visit Prayagraj, seamless operation of train services has become the top priority.'
The ministry also said that 100 percent of freight traffic from East Central Railway and North Central Railway was successfully diverted to EDFC, thereby relieving the remaining routes for movement of Maha Kumbh special trains and reducing traffic pressure on them.
The ministry acknowledged that EDFC played a key role in decongesting the Prayagraj division of North Central Railway. It said, "This strategic shift in freight movement is not only reducing congestion but also making smooth operation of Maha Kumbh special trains possible, allowing devotees to travel comfortably to take a dip in the holy waters."
