Investment of Canadian Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI) in India has increased rapidly. Since February 2025, Canadian FPIs have seen an increase of about ₹ 28,000 crore in the Indian stock market. According to the latest data from market regulator SEBI, as of May 2025, the total share assets held by Canadian investors have reached about 1.76 lakh crore (about $ 21 billion).

The Canadian Pension Fund is one of the largest market investors. It had assets amounting to $12.2 billion in March 2025. The Canadian Pension Plan had 2% net assets invested in Indian rupees. This has come down to less than 3% at the end of March 2024. According to data from National Assets Depository Limited, this figure reached a high of ₹1.98 lakh crore in September 2024. Since then, FPIs have made profits on investments in line with the trends. Investors participated in the Trump trade ahead of the US presidential elections.

FPIs have once again strengthened their presence in the Indian markets due to tariff fluctuations. Canadian FPI AUC has increased by $3.25 billion since the end of February. At the same time, net FPI investment stood at $1.89 billion. The benchmark Nifty rose more than 11% during this period, which also increased the value of investment assets. FPI AUC means how much money foreign investors have invested in a particular market and how much of that investment is currently with the custodians. This trend of investment is being considered special before the G-7 summit. This indicates that Canada's confidence in the Indian markets remains intact.
