Jio and Airtel recently partnered with Elon Musk-owned SpaceX for the satellite service Starlink, in which satellite internet service would be launched in India. IT minister AAshwini Vaishnaw, a day after the announcement, greeted this tie-up with Starlink by tweeting from X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, "Starlink, welcome to India!" However, after some time the minister deleted this tweet. Vaishnav also wrote in his post that "this service will be useful for remote railway projects."

Starlink is a satellite-based internet service that provides broadband connection at a very high speed. It is not fiber cable-dependent, so this service can be extended even in remote and inaccessible places. Apart from this, it can provide a stable connection even in cases of natural disasters and bad weather conditions.

SpaceX is awaiting government permission to launch the Starlink service in India, but with the IT minister having posted now, it is likely that this permission is imminent, but the deletion of the post is also giving some indication.

India has so far been cautious about satellite-based connectivity and strictly regulates the use of satellite phones. Earlier, Elon Musk tried to get approval for Starlink several times but did not succeed.

Now the situation seems to be changing. Elon Musk has become an (unofficial) part of the Donald Trump administration in the US, and this may also soften the attitude of the Indian government towards him. Similarly, the change in import duty on electric cars has also proved favorable for Tesla.
