Commonwealth Games 2026: PM Modi Meets Medal Winners as India Finishes Fourth With 39 Medals
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Indian medalists at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and praised their outstanding performance, saying their success will inspire many young people. Despite a limited number of events, India won a total of 39 medals in Glasgow, including 13 gold, 17 silver, and nine bronze medals, finishing fourth in the medal tally.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the Indian medal winners who won a lot of laurels for the nation in the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Sunday. He talked to the sportspersons regarding their experience in the Glasgow Games and congratulated them on their success, stating that their success would motivate many upcoming athletes in the nation. As stated by the Prime Minister through his post on the social networking site, “It was nice meeting our medal winners from the 2026 Commonwealth Games at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. I heard about their experiences in the Games. They have all done proud to the country with their amazing performances.”
India won a total of 39 medals in Glasgow, including 13 gold, 17 silver, and nine bronze medals. India finished fourth in the medal tally. However, this time the Commonwealth Games program was significantly limited, and sports with strong medal potential for India, such as wrestling, badminton, table tennis, hockey, and shooting, were not included. India's fourth-place finish with 39 medals was particularly noteworthy. India performed strongly primarily in boxing, judo, athletics, and para-athletics.
Boxing was one of India's most successful sports. Indian boxers won a total of 10 medals, including seven gold and three silver. Gold medal winners included Preeti Pawar (54 kg), Jasmine Lamboria (57 kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (51 kg), Priya Ghanghas (60 kg), Arundhati Chaudhary (70 kg), Sachin Siwach (60 kg), and Ankush Panghal (80 kg).
