Andhra Pradesh Allows Trained Ayurvedic Doctors to Perform Select Surgeries Independently
The Andhra Pradesh government has allowed Ayurvedic doctors to perform select surgeries independently. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav granted this permission to trained postgraduate Ayurvedic doctors. The government has decided to integrate the Indian medical system with modern medicine. Qualified Ayurvedic doctors can perform 39% of general and 19% of ENT and ophthalmological treatments.
This is because the Health Minister for Andhra Pradesh, Satya Kumar Yadav, has given permission to specially qualified post-graduate ayurvedic practitioners to conduct some surgeries independently. The government has also decided to mix Ayurvedic with modern medicines. This was announced in a government statement.
"Yadav has approved appropriately trained postgraduate Ayurvedic doctors in surgery to perform surgeries independently," it said.
According to the release, the Health Minister has given his consent to Ayurvedic doctors in accordance with the guidelines of the Central Council of Indian Medicine, 2020, and the National Commission for Indian Systems of Medicine.

With this decision, skilled Ayurvedic practitioners are now allowed to conduct 39 percent of general and 19 percent of ENT and ophthalmological procedures. The procedures that have been approved include the treatment of infectious diseases, stitching wounds, hemorrhoids, fissures, and skin grafting.
In the meantime, Yadav had extensive discussions regarding the future course of action with K. Dinesh, the Director of the AYUSH Department, and others. Officials informed the minister that, in addition to the Dr. NRS Government Ayurvedic College in Vijayawada, there are two private Ayurvedic colleges in the state.
Yadav directed them to immediately start postgraduate courses at the Government Ayurvedic College and take measures to provide quality education, as well as provide necessary operation theaters and surgical equipment.
