CES 2026 at Las Vegas gave a major insight into the future of transportation technology. The companies of Uber, Lucid Group, and Nuro together launched their novel "production intent" robot taxi. The car is completely autonomous and features 360-degree sensor technology. The companies have already stated the launch of this service by the end of this year and have already started testing it on the roads of the Bay Area at San Francisco.

The respective roles played by these three companies in this project have been thoroughly defined. Lucid Group is supplying the vehicle platform based upon its "Lucid Gravity" model. The autonomous driving solution, as well as testing, will be handled by Nuro. This robotaxi will run on Uber’s network.

This robotaxi is equipped with a state-of-the-art sensor system, including cameras, solid-state LiDAR, and radar. These combine to give the vehicle 360-degree visibility. A "Halo Module" mounted on the roof of the vehicle, equipped with LED lights, will help passengers identify their taxi and check their trip status. The cabin, designed by Uber, seats six passengers. Passengers can control music, temperature, and heated seats through built-in screens. The vehicle's brain is powered by an Nvidia Drive AGX Thor chip, which is capable of handling complex traffic situations.

According to the companies, trials have begun in San Francisco in December 2025. Nuro is currently testing these prototypes under the supervision of trained operators. To ensure safety, it underwent rigorous testing on simulations and closed tracks before hitting public roads.

If all final tests are successful, mass production of the robotaxi is expected to begin this year at Lucid's factory in Arizona. CES visitors can see the vehicle at Nvidia's showcase at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Las Vegas until January 8th.
