Shashank Singh, who plays for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League, on Sunday gave comments regarding a family dispute. According to him, an FIR has been filed against him for tarnishing his reputation. In the FIR, he has been accused of conspiracy to extort money from him.
Last month, an FIR has been registered against Shashank Singh along with his father Shailesh Singh, retired Special Director General of Police. Shashank Singh and his father are accused of assaulting, humiliating, and snatching the mobile phone of a cook in their household.
Shashank Singh clarified his stance on the matter in a lengthy post on social media. He wrote, "This incident changed me forever and taught me lessons I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I'm not writing this for sympathy. I'm writing this because this was the first time my family and I experienced something like this, and I hope others will learn from it."
The right-handed batsman wrote, "As an athlete, I've faced malice, trolling, and abuse for years. I've learned to live with it. But this was different. Overnight, I was portrayed as if I had beaten someone less privileged than me. Thousands of people abused me without knowing the truth."
He wrote, "When we later saw him in the video, we were shocked because he had left our house perfectly fine. It took us a while to understand how someone could be beaten so badly. He had come to our house on his own insistence, but we sent him back on the third day when we found him roaming around the house, taking photos inside, and sending them to his friends."
Shashank wrote, "Police records revealed that he already had 9 FIRs registered against him and had been chargesheeted in 8 cases, including attempted murder, house theft (which we later learned he had also committed at our house), assault, house trespass, extortion by causing injury, criminal intimidation, obscene acts, offenses under the SC/ST Act, and other crimes. He was using three different names to conceal his identity."
Shashank explained that the entire incident was a ruse to pressure them for monetary gain. Singh wrote, "As more details emerged, I became convinced that he never came to our home with good intentions. I believe the plan was to pressure me by filing a false FIR, hoping I would pay money to protect my public image. In my opinion, the FIR was used as a tool for extortion rather than a genuine complaint."
He wrote, "What bothered me more is that, while genuine victims often struggle to file FIRs even for serious crimes, an FIR was filed against me and my family without hearing our side of the story or questioning us."
He also dismissed media reports linking him to a similar alleged incident on April 30, 2026, as false. He explained that a basic fact-check would have proven the rumors false, as he was actively playing in the IPL on that date.
The cricketer added, "I'm reminded of how rumors are often taken as truth and investigations are ignored for the sake of headlines. So how easily can a reputation be tarnished?" Shashank said, "The good thing is that I was at home with my parents on the day of the incident, so we avoided any major incident."
The IPL star appealed to people, writing, "Everyone should be vigilant and check the background of any staff when hiring. Never let sympathy override common sense. Always hire domestic help from a registered agency after proper police verification. Just because someone looks helpless, crying, or seeking sympathy doesn't mean they are telling the truth. The truth may take time, but it always wins."
