Alexander Zverev Storms Into French Open Semifinals With Dominant Comeback Win
French Open: Last year's finalist, Zverev, faced a tough fight from the 19-year-old Spaniard in the first set on Court Philippe-Chatrier, but the 29-year-old remained unfazed.
Second seed Alexander Zverev kept himself alive in the French Open with an impressive 7-6 (3), 6-1, 6-3 victory over Rafael Zoder. As a result, Zverev qualifies into the semifinals of the Roland Garros for the fifth time in six years. The match was very challenging for him; Zverev managed to turn around and secure his win in just 2 hours and 17 minutes of playtime.
Zoder was in form despite reaching the quarterfinals and leading among the most clay court victories this year with 19 wins. He broke the serve to go up by 5-2 on the scoreboard. Zverev reacted fast and went on to win five out of the next six games. That put him in a tiebreak situation and after that he started pulling ahead by winning the set with a score of 3-3 by taking four consecutive points.
Afterwards, Zverev was simply too good for Zoder. He secured 71% of his points when playing his first-serve and used his effective forehands to win seven consecutive games while starting from 1-1 in the second set and took a two-set lead, taking control of the match.
