The first Test between India and South Africa in Kolkata has reached its final stage on the third day. South Africa has set a target of 124 runs for India. However, the biggest problem is that Shubman Gill is hospitalized. Therefore, India will chase the target with one batsman less. South Africa scored 159 runs in their first innings. Subsequently, India's first innings was reduced to 189, giving Team India a 30-run lead. The Proteas have scored 153 runs in their second innings.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, South Africa got off to a good start with openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton. They shared a 57-run partnership for the first wicket. Wickets fell at regular intervals thereafter, and the team was all out for 159. Markram top-scored for South Africa with 31 runs. No other batsman could reach 25. Five batsmen failed to reach single digits. For India, Jasprit Bumrah took five wickets, while Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav took two each.

India's first innings started poorly, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal for just 18 runs. A crucial 47-run partnership between KL Rahul and Washington Sundar followed this. India suffered their second setback when Sundar departed at 75. Shubman Gill then came out to bat, but retired hurt after scoring four runs due to neck spasms.

KL Rahul then played a crucial innings of 39 runs off 119 balls. Pant then played an aggressive innings, scoring 27 runs off 24 balls with two fours and two sixes. Ravindra Jadeja then scored 27, Dhruv Jurel 14, and Axar Patel scored an unbeaten 16 to take India to 189.

South Africa's second innings started poorly. They lost Ryan Rickelton (11), Aiden Markram (4), Wiaan Mulder (11), and Tony de Giorgi (2) for just 40 runs. After this, Temba Bavuma held one end, while wickets continued to fall at the other end. Temba Bavuma scored a brilliant unbeaten 55 off 136 balls, including four fours. Corbin Bosch also made 25. South Africa thus made 153 in their second innings. For India, Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Siraj took two wickets each.
