Vistara Penalised ₹1.10 Lakh for Deficiency in Service After Judge's Ticket Was Cancelled Due to Overbooking
The Chhattisgarh State Consumer Commission has imposed a fine of ₹1.10 lakh on Vistara Airlines. The airline had cancelled a judge's confirmed ticket due to overbooking and sold it to another passenger at a higher price.
Chhattisgarh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission declared Vistara Airlines guilty of serious lapses in services and trade practice, and has imposed a fine of ₹1.10 lakh. This includes ₹10,000 for legal expenses, which is to be given to the complainant, Additional District and Sessions Judge Bhupendra Kumar Vasnikar, as compensation for emotional distress.
The commission has stated that in case the payment is not made within 45 days, Vistara has to pay 7% interest annually in the amount. This complaint has been filed against ADJ Bhupendra Kumar Vasnikar working in Kanker. Judge Vasnikar was coming back to Raipur from Delhi on May 28, 2023, after visiting his family in Kashmir.
Four tickets of Vistara were booked by him on May 9 for ₹23,156. He reached Delhi Airport at 2:00 PM, four hours before the scheduled flight on May 28.
