TN Cabinet to Clear TVK Govt's First Full Budget on July 16

The Budget is expected to outline the government’s fiscal strategy and policy priorities for the 2026-27 financial year. It is likely to include measures aimed at strengthening welfare programmes, accelerating infrastructure development, boosting employment opportunities, supporting agriculture, improving healthcare and education, and attracting fresh investments to the state.

Since taking office, Chief Minister Vijay has been holding a series of review meetings with senior officials across departments to assess the progress of ongoing schemes, identify funding requirements and finalise new initiatives.

These consultations are understood to have played a key role in shaping the Budget, with the Cabinet meeting expected to serve as the final stage of discussions before the document is presented in the Assembly.

Officials indicated that ministers would review expenditure plans, sector-wise allocations and major policy announcements before giving their approval. Once cleared by the Cabinet, the Budget will be finalised for presentation during the first week of August.

The forthcoming Budget carries added significance as it will be the first comprehensive financial statement of the TVK-led government. It is expected to provide a detailed roadmap for the administration’s governance agenda while reflecting the promises made by the ruling alliance during the Assembly election campaign.

Earlier this year, the previous DMK government presented an interim Budget for the 2026-27 financial year in view of the Assembly elections. Following the change in government after the polls, the Vijay-led administration is now preparing to present its first full Budget, which is expected to set the tone for its economic and developmental priorities over the coming year.
