There is a major offensive launched by Indian agencies against a major drug trafficking group which is operating in the Death Triangle Corridor. In this operation, thirty-eight teams led by the NCB conducted raids simultaneously at 38 places in Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur. The raiders found hawala transactions amounting to ₹100 crore, apart from freezing of 1,424 bank accounts, recovery of ₹17.82 crore and arrests of 18 accused.
The raids are not limited to the seizure of drugs but have been done with the intention of dismantling the whole network. Giving information on this regard regarding the action taken on October 23rd on social media, Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has again reaffirmed his dedication towards the realization of his goal of creating a drug-free India by December 31st, 2029.
Talking about the dismantling of an international narco-cartel, Amit Shah informed that this drug trafficking network was involved in smuggling drugs through the 'Death Triangle Corridor' crossing the borders of India, Myanmar and Bangladesh.
He informed that this shows India's dedication towards the elimination of every drug network by December 31st, 2029 and that India will continue to take strict action against drug trafficking gangs till they are eliminated. He congratulated the anti-narcotics team comprising central agencies and police forces from the three states.
According to information about an active drug smuggling network from Myanmar into India, the NCB launched 'Operation Trident' on the morning of October 23rd. In coordination with the local police and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the entire network and financial base of a major international drug trafficking ring were targeted. This ring primarily operated from Mizoram, but its links extended to Manipur, Assam, and Bangladesh.
According to sources, the operation was planned after several days of confidential intelligence gathering, identification of specific locations for joint operations, and high-level meetings between agencies. The locations where the operations took place included Aizawl, Champhai in Mizoram, and the strategic trading town of Jokhathar on the India-Myanmar border.
Securities were also raided at locations along the transit corridor in Churachandpur in Manipur and the Cachar region of Assam. Thangsintuang, alias Chintuang, alias Tluanga, was arrested in Delhi after intensive surveillance, intelligence gathering, and sustained operations across various states.
This international drug trafficking network, operating from Myanmar, had long been under the agencies' radar. Its main kingpin is Thangsintuang alias Chintuang alias Tluanga, who lives in Myanmar. He has 10 drug trafficking cases registered against him in Mizoram, but remains at large. However, Vungkhanthana, a close associate who coordinated the movement and delivery of consignments from Myanmar, has been arrested.
Lalrampari, who handled hawala transactions for this network, was arrested by the NCB two years ago. Similarly, Abu Saleh alias Saifuddin, who played a key role in coordinating drug transportation in the Assam corridor, was arrested last year from Cachar, Assam.
