Delhi Traffic Advisory Oct 12: 6 Metro Stations Shut, 30 Diversions
Key Highlights
Metro: Entry and exit at six central Delhi Metro stations closed from 6 am to 4 pm; interchange facilities continue.
Roads: Restrictions and possible diversions at around 30 locations.
Why: The Congress-led INDIA bloc is holding a protest march towards the Supreme Court.
Also: Overnight rain could worsen morning traffic, police warned.
Advice: Avoid non-essential travel through central Delhi.
Delhi commuters face another day of restrictions on Monday. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has closed entry and exit at six metro stations in central Delhi from 6 am to 4 pm, citing security reasons, ahead of a protest march by the Congress-led INDIA bloc towards the Supreme Court.
“However, interchange facility will remain available at all the concerned metro stations,” the DMRC said, adding that the situation would be reviewed by security agencies.
The restrictions come two days after 45 metro stations were shut during the Cockroach Janta Party’s protest on Saturday.
Areas to Avoid
Delhi Traffic Police have flagged restrictions and possible diversions at around 30 locations:
Dhaula Kuan Flyover, Lodhi Road Flyover, Neela Gumbad, Bhikaji Cama Place, Moti Bagh, San Martin Marg, Sardar Patel Marg
“Motorists are requested to avoid non-essential travel through affected areas, follow diversion signs and directions of traffic personnel,” the police said.
Why It Matters: A City Caught Between Protests
For many Delhi residents, this is the second working day in a short span disrupted by protests and security measures. With overnight rain adding to congestion, the morning office rush could be particularly difficult. Commuters who rely on the affected stations will need to plan alternative routes or use interchange-only travel.
The Protest
The march is part of continuing opposition protests over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demands for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Leaders of several INDIA bloc parties are expected to take part.
Ahead of the march, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi shared a video alleging that young people who protested peacefully in Delhi on Sunday were assaulted by police and BJP workers. The police and the BJP have not responded to the allegation in the reports available so far.
Commuter Tips
Check the DMRC’s official X handle for station updates before leaving.
Allow extra travel time, especially in central and south Delhi.
Avoid driving through Connaught Place and the central government area if possible.
Follow traffic personnel and diversion signs.
The Bottom Line
If your commute passes through central Delhi on Monday, expect closures and delays until at least 4 pm, and check updates before you step out.
