Chinese Visa Case: Congress MP Karti Chidambaram was summoned by the ED for questioning in the money laundering probe related to alleged irregularities in issuing visas to 263 Chinese nationals in 2011. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram appeared before the Enforcement Directorate here on Saturday in a money laundering case related to the issuance of visas to some Chinese nationals in 2011. Official sources have given this information.
It is known that the case pertains to allegations of payment of Rs 50 lakh as bribe by a top executive of Vedanta group company Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) to Karti and his close associate S Bhaskar Raman. The ED case has started after the CBI complaint. The agency will record the statement of the 52-year-old MP from Tamil Nadu's Sivagangai Lok Sabha seat under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Karti had earlier said that the ED investigation was frivolous and he had earlier handed over the documents to the agency. He said that CBI has closed the case, but they want to reopen it and ask me something. He asked for more time to collect documents, as he had not appeared on December 12 and December 16.
