Google's services like Gmail and Drive were down for an hour around the world; people in the US and UK faced the most problems

Google's services are used by millions of people around the world, but on Monday, August 12, Google's services stopped working. Google services have started working again for the time being after facing an outage affecting users around the world.

This outage affected Gmail, Drive, Search, and many other Google services. Downdetector, a platform that tracks outages, said that this problem was at its peak at 9 am (ET). Let's know about it in detail.

Google's facility was down for an hour:

• Google's App Status Dashboard has revealed that users faced a major outage on Monday, August 12, 2024.
• This includes Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Chat, Google Tasks. Even though the outage was reported worldwide, users in the US and UK were most affected by it.
• Google said that during the problem, users connecting to Workspace service in the UK may face connectivity issues.

What was the reason for the outage:

• Google said in its report that 'the root cause of the problem was the lack of power of the networking device in the London data center.
• The report said that Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Chat, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Meet, and Google Task users connecting to Workspace services faced connectivity problems for up to 40 minutes.
• Google Cloud Platform also faced an outage.
• The report said that services for Cloud CDN, Cloud Load Balancing, Hybrid Connectivity, and Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) customers were down intermittently from 06:20 to 07:00 US/Pacific.
• Services were then affected in Europe-West 2 until 08:32 (US/Pacific) for a total period of 2 hours and 12 minutes.
