A lot of people have yet to receive the upgrade for Android 14 and 15, even though Google's ongoing plans for Android 16. Android 16 has been confirmed by Google. Android 16 is reportedly going to come earlier than expected.

The release of Android upgrades was just reported by Google in a developer blog. Software Development Kit (SDK) releases and quarterly updates will be part of this, offering users a fresh experience and enhancing developer support.

Google primarily works on projects Treble and Mainline to make Android releases faster and more effective. Hence, it updates faster without doing a full system update. In other words, you will not be updating your phone now and then.

Google is adding another level to this. For such a situation, Google had planned not just one but two Android releases in 2025. Starting next year, Google will be pushing out a major release during the second quarter (Q2) and a minor release during the fourth quarter (Q4).

Several changes will be packaged with the Q2 release along with some new developer APIs. The shift from its regular Q3 schedule to Q2 would mean that "OEMs can ship the latest version of Android sooner in the year." On the other hand, the Q4 minor release will build upon making "the system compatible and bug fixes.".
