Due to the delicate nature of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of the electoral rolls, the Election Commission has introduced Special Voter List Observers in eight major states, including West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.

Both will be spending at least two days per week within these states. During these times, they will make sure that the names of eligible voters appear on the draft list and that the names of ineligible voters are not included.

According to the Election Commission, the eight states in which they have been deployed include West Bengal, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Rajasthan. Four to five observers have been deployed in each of these states. During their deployment, they will hold meetings with state and district leaders of all national and regional parties.

If they encounter any problems at any level, they will resolve them immediately. During this period, they will also cooperate with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the state to ensure the proper and timely completion of the SIR.

They will also participate in meetings with the CEO and District Electoral Officer to ensure the entire process is smooth, transparent, and participatory. It is noteworthy that while the SIR work is being conducted in 12 states and union territories during the second phase of the SIR, the Commission has deployed observers only in eight key states.
