The much-awaited Conference of the Parties, COP-30, scheduled to start on November 10 in Belém, Brazil, is expected to be a key discussion regarding how far countries have implemented the much-talked-about Paris Agreement signed 10 years ago in 2015 to address the challenges of climate change.

The discussion will also look at which countries have fulfilled their promises to provide economic and technical assistance to developed countries under this agreement. Moreover, why have developing countries failed to fulfill those goals?

The conference will last until November 21st. In this period, India will also present its new goals and progress. The Indian delegation, led by Forest and Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, will participate in it. In addition to these issues, the COP will also include the development of a citizen-focused plan to address environmental challenges, modeled after India's Mission Life.

Initiatives related to engaging people in environmentally friendly lifestyles may be emphasized. The issues of carbon credits and carbon sinks will also be discussed extensively at the conference. India can present to the world the steps taken in this direction in the last few years. More than 1.4 billion trees have been planted so far under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign.

In light of the Paris Agreement, India has set a target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2070. This includes increasing non-fossil fuel energy to 500 gigawatts by 2030, with approximately 50% of its energy needs to be met through renewable energy.

According to the Ministry of Environment and Forests, it will represent the Global South at the conference and highlight the challenges facing these countries, including those that are less technologically and socially developed.
