India-Canada Economic Ties: Nirmala Sitharaman to Hold Key Talks on Trade, Investment and Finance
After the stalling of trade talks with the US, Canada is ready to rapidly advance economic relations with India.
Following the sudden termination of trade talks with the US last week, it is now evident that Canada is keen on developing economic ties with India. In this regard, there is a planned meeting concerning economic and financial cooperation between both nations, and it is set to take place this week.
As part of the crucial meeting, India's Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, will be traveling to Canada on August 25. The two nations have begun discussions regarding a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Discussions regarding economic and financial cooperation may further cement their mutual trust.
As per the Finance Ministry, Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will undertake a diplomatic trip to Canada and the US between August 25 and September 2, 2026.
