The country's Supreme Court chastised state governments for delaying migrant worker registration. The Supreme Court has issued strict instructions that workers should be registered on the e-shram portal within a month. Workers will be given ration cards after they have registered.

Aside from that, the Supreme Court ordered the central government to make provisions for food grains for migrant workers in states where the registration process has been completed. A bench of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah referred to the states' registration delay as unfortunate. The court stated that if any state fails to complete the registration process within the specified time frame, the concerned secretaries will be summoned.

The Supreme Court reprimanded the states in this matter. A bench of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah said, 'Why was the registration process not completed in four months? This is too much. Even after four months, you are engaged in this process and are daring to say that two more months are needed. We direct that this process be completed within four weeks.' The apex court said that till now 100% registration process of migrant workers has been completed only in Bihar and Telangana.

Advocate Prashant Bhushan, who appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioners, said that some states have completed the registration process but there are some states which have not even started this process. Now the hearing of this case will be held on August 27 in the apex court.
