Centre Releases Draft Pesticide Management Bill 2025, Seeks Public Feedback

The Ministry of Agriculture has released the draft of the Pesticide Management Bill of 2025 for public consultation on Wednesday, January 7. The Bill intends to repeal the Insecticides Act of 1968 and the Insecticides Rules of 1971 that have been in effect for an impressive 57 years.

According to a statement, the Ministry has sought comments from all stakeholders by February 4, 2026, to improve the law before it is introduced in Parliament.

The proposed farmer-friendly act encompasses a whole lot of reform initiatives, like the promotion of transparency and point of origin identification for the betterment of the farmers. The proposed act incorporates modern means and technology for efficient functionality. The proposed act imposes harsher penalties on counterfeit insecticides.
