CDSCO: 111 medicines did not meet the quality standards, two were found fake; Health Ministry will initiate legal action
CDSCO: Central Drugs Standard Control Organization had taken samples from medicine shops across the country. Out of these, samples of 41 medicines were tested in the organization and central laboratories. 70 were tested in state laboratories. These include gas, fever, and respiratory medicines.

111 medicines were found to be not up to the standards in November in the campaign to check the quality of medicines. In the investigation, two medicines were found fake, whose manufacturers are not known. Their samples were taken from Bihar and Ghaziabad. The Central Health Ministry is now initiating legal action in this matter. Instructions have been given to remove the medicines from the market.

These were gas, fever, as well as respiratory medicines including those of cough and respiratory problems. Official sources said the two medicines whose samples were declared fake in Bihar and Ghaziabad were manufactured in its name by a big company. In the case of fake medicines, there is a provision of imprisonment ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment.
A sample of Pan-40, a gas medicine, from Bihar, has been reported as spurious, the batch number is 23443074. A sample of amoxicillin and potassium clavulanate tablet (Augmentin 625 DUO) was reported to be spurious with batch number 824D054 in Ghaziabad.
