Amazon is shutting down its free service from August 20, know what effect it will have on you
Amazon is shutting down its Appstore for Android devices from August 20. The company has taken this decision to focus on its ecosystem. Launched in 2011 to compete with Google Play Store, this appstore has never been able to match it. However, the closure of this service will not affect most Android users.

Amazon had some time back announced that from June 17, 2025, ads would be seen while watching films and web series on Prime Video in India. Meanwhile, now the company has also made another announcement that it is going to close down its Appstore for Android smartphones from August 20, 2025. In this manner, a free service run for over a decade will end.
But from the start, users did not like this service too much. The shutdown of this service will not affect the majority of Android users. Most users already have the habit of using only Google Play Store to install apps. Amazon's Appstore shutdown will have no effect on Fire tablets or Fire TV.
Amazon launched its own Appstore in 2011 to compete with Google Play Store. It also offered many benefits like free apps, special deals and Amazon Coins. There was a time when Amazon also felt that this service would help it gain a foothold in this market as well when bundled with mobile software, especially Kindle Fire tablets.
Although people showed some interest in the first few years, this service could never match Google. Even developers used to offer most of their apps on the Play Store and by mid-2020, Amazon Appstore almost disappeared on non-Amazon devices. On the other hand, the company has said on its decision to shut down the App Store that the decision to shut down the App Store on Android has been taken to focus on its own ecosystem.
