Agricultural sector production increased to Rs 29.49 lakh crore in FY 2024, government data released

Gross value of agricultural and allied sector production increased 54.6% at constant prices during FY 2012-FY 2024 to Rs 29.49 lakh crore. The National Statistical Office reported this on Friday.
The NSO, under the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MOSPI), has released the annual publication of 'Statistical Report on the value of production from agriculture and allied sectors (2011-12 to 2023-24)'.
"Gross value of production (GVO) from agriculture and allied sector at constant prices has shown a steady increase from Rs 1,908 thousand crore in 2011-12 to Rs 2,949 thousand crore in 2023-24, reflecting an overall growth of about 54.6%," the NSO said.
It further said that the Gross Value Added (GVA) of agriculture and allied sectors at current prices has recorded a growth of about 225%, from Rs 1,502 thousand crore in 2011-12 to Rs 4,878 thousand crore in 2023-24.
It is a comprehensive publication furnishing detailed information on values of crop, livestock, forestry and logging, and fisheries and aquaculture pursuits of agriculture and allied activities during 2011-12 to 2023-24 at current as well as constant prices of 2011-12.
According to the data, the crop sector with a GVO of Rs 15.95 lakh crore continues to be the largest contributor to the total GVO (at constant prices) of agriculture and allied sectors with a share of 54.1% in 2023-24. Cereals and fruits and vegetables together will account for 52.5% of the total crop GVO in 2023-24. Among cereals, only paddy and wheat will account for nearly 85% of the GVO (at constant prices) of all cereals in 2023-24.
Five states - Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Telangana, and Haryana - contributed nearly 53% to the GVO (at constant prices) of cereals in 2023-24. Uttar Pradesh has retained the top position, albeit with a reduced share (17.2% in 2023-24 from 18.6% in 2011-12), according to NSO data.
In the Fruits group, the constant value GVO of Banana (Rs. 47,000 crore) has overtaken Mango (Rs. 46,100 crore) in 2023-24. Mango has been the highest contributor to GVO (at constant prices) in the Fruits group consistently from 2011-12 to 2021-22.
Potato will be the highest contributor to GVO (at constant prices) in the Vegetables group during 2011-12 to 2023-24. The GVO of Potato has increased from Rs. 21,300 crore in 2011-12 to Rs. 37,200 crore in 2023-24.
Further, floriculture experienced significant growth in GVO at constant prices, almost doubling from Rs 17,400 crore in 2011-12 to Rs 28,100 crore in 2023-24, reflecting growing commercial interest and diversification in horticulture.
