Army: Jio Telecom and the Indian Army together have successfully installed the first 5G mobile tower on Siachen Glacier, the world's highest battlefield. It has been installed at a forward post in Siachen.
Reliance Jio has started its 5G service in the world's highest battlefield. The Indian Army's 'Fire and Fury' Corps gave this information on 'X'. According to the Army, Jio Telecom and the Indian Army together have successfully installed the first 5G mobile tower on Siachen Glacier. It has been installed at a forward post in Siachen.
Jio has achieved an unprecedented feat by starting 4G and 5G services on Siachen Glacier just before Army Day on January 15. Jio has become the first operator in the country to start service on Siachen Glacier. Describing it as a great achievement, the Army said that 'this indomitable achievement is dedicated to our brave soldiers, who completed this challenge by staying deployed in challenging conditions.'
It was really tough to install the tower at such a height. The Army ensured the safety of crew members along with logistics. So, Jio used its indigenous full-stack 5G technology. Fire and Fury Signalers and Siachen Warriors, along with Jio's team, installed a 5G tower in the Northern Glacier. The temperature in this area falls to -40 °C. There is often a cold wind and snowstorms out there.
The Army said the latest move will further enhance the technical capability of the Indian Army and guarantee better communication facilities for the soldiers. The soldiers would now get quicker and more reliable communication facilities, which would help in their operational work, with 5G connectivity.
