Due to the excellent bowling of Blessing Muzarabani (6 wickets) and the gallant knock of Brian Bennett (54 runs), Ben Curran (44 runs) and Wesley Madhevere (19 not out), Zimbabwe recorded a historic victory by achieving a 3-run win against Bangladesh in the first Test. This is Zimbabwe's first Test match win in four years and Bangladesh win in six years. Zimbabwe took a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series with this win.

Chasing a target of 174, Zimbabwe got a brilliant start and established a solid foundation towards a win with the help of the opening duo of Brian Bennett and Ben Curran. Both of them added a record 95-run stand for the first wicket together. Mehdi Hasan Miraz ended this stand by getting rid of Ben Curran (44).

Then Taijul Islam sent Nick Welch (10) leg before wicket. Miraz sent Sean Williams (9) and the established Bennett (54) next, and thus made the match interesting.

Captain Craig Ervine (10) was caught by wicketkeeper Zaker Ali off Taijul Islam, while Miraz bowled out Nyasha Mayawo (1) and Wellington Masakatza (12), giving Bangladesh hope of a comeback. But by then, Zimbabwe had come close to victory. Wesley Madhevere (19 not out) and Richard Engarava (4 not out) led the team to victory by reaching 174 runs for seven wickets in 50.1 overs. Mehdi Hasan Miraz took five wickets and Taijul Islam took two wickets for Bangladesh.

Earlier, Bangladesh started their second innings with yesterday's score of 194/4. In the morning session, Mujarbani gave Zimbabwe their first success by dismissing captain Nazmul Shanto (60). After this, he also dismissed Miraz (11). Bangladesh's team could add only 61 more runs and lost the remaining six wickets. Richard Engarava dismissed Taijul (1), while Masakatza dismissed Hasan Mahmud (12) and Khalid Ahmed (0). However, Zaker Ali (58) completed his half-century while handling one end. In the end, Mujarbani also sent him to the pavilion and ended Bangladesh's innings at 255.

For Zimbabwe, Muzarabani took six wickets, Masakatza took two, and Nyauchi and Engarava took one wicket each. Bangladesh had scored 191 runs in the first innings, while Zimbabwe had scored 273 runs and gained a crucial lead of 82 runs.
