The Defense Ministry later said in a statement that a band comprising 45 girls from the North-East is participating in the camp for the first time. The band members are aged between 13 to 15, representing the rich cultural heritage of the North East. Demonstrating NCC's reach to every corner of the country. Last year, a total of 2,155 cadets, including 710 girls, from 28 states and eight union territories participated in the Republic Day parade in 2023.
Apart from this, two women contingents of defence forces are scheduled to march in the Republic Day parade this year. According to defence officials, there will be all-women soldiers in a contingent comprising 144 personnel, of which 60 will be from the Army and the rest from the Indian Air Force and Navy. At the same time, another women's contingent will be from the Directorate General of Armed Forces Medical Services, which will include nurses from military nursing services and they will be led in the parade by women doctors.
