Mohammed Shami gets support from Saudi and Philander in the demand to lift the ban on saliva on the ball

Former New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee and former South African pacer Vernon Philander have stepped in defense of Indian pacer Mohammed Shami. Shami had recently appealed to the ICC to withdraw the saliva ban so that reverse swing on the field by fast bowlers can be made possible. In fact, during Corona times, ICC had banned applying saliva on a ball, and the use of saliva became a necessity in order to reverse swing a ball.

Former South African bowler Philander stepped in to defend Shami and said that if saliva had been employed, South African bowlers would have been in a better position than New Zealand. Batsmen are dominating ODI cricket because bowlers are not being able to reverse swing due to the saliva prohibition.

At the same time, former New Zealand pacer Tim Southee said that in ODI and T20 cricket, the ball swings initially. In such a situation, when the ball gets old, it becomes difficult for the bowlers. If saliva is allowed, then the bowlers will have some chances to make a comeback.
