BCCI Weighs Leadership Options Ahead of England and Ireland Series
Team India New T20I captain: Suryakumar Yadav has been struggling with poor form for a long time. In light of this, the BCCI senior men's team selection committee is considering the name of India's new T20I captain. Which names are in the race? Let's take a look.
The current IPL 2026 has not been good for Suryakumar Yadav, who is currently going through a difficult time in terms of form. He has only managed to score 195 runs in ten matches, with an average of 19.52 and a strike rate of below 150. The same trend was evident in the recent T20 World Cup, where India emerged victorious, but he faced challenges in his batting except for the match against the USA. Therefore, the BCCI selectors, headed by Ajit Agarkar, are considering replacing him with a new captain. It is being discussed that three names, including Sanju Samson, are being considered.
Sanju Samson, who was named Player of the Tournament in the 2026 T20 World Cup, is considered a frontrunner for India's next captain. This change in captaincy could be seen in the upcoming series against Ireland and England. Following the T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson's impressive performance continues in IPL 2026. He has scored 402 runs in 10 matches so far at an average of 57.43 and a strike rate of 167.50. He has also scored two centuries this season, making him the only batsman to achieve this feat. He is also being considered as the next captain of CSK after Ruturaj Gaikwad.
