India's Gig Workforce to Reach 21 Million by 2030, But Women Remain Underrepresented: RedSeer Report

The number of gig economy workers in India is projected to be at 21 million by 2030. However, there is very little representation of women in this rapidly growing sector. As per a report released by RedSeer Strategy, around 0.5% of the gig work labor force comprised of women in 2020, which has increased to 1% in 2025. This is in comparison to the fact that the Indian labor force comprises of 28% of women. Around 35% to 45% of women gig workers are working in the beauty and wellness sector. Only around 1% of gig workers are found in the food delivery category.

Currently, there are around 6 million gig workers on a monthly basis in India. It is predicted to be between 17-21 million in 2030. Gig economy sector will comprise of 70% of the total jobs by the end of this decade. Full-time gig workers earn around 2.5 times more than traditional jobs. Hourly wages for gig economy workers is ₹138, while others earn ₹54 per hour.

Domestic services led the way in terms of monthly income. Full-time workers in this sector earned up to ₹80,000. Drivers earned ₹39,000, and delivery workers earned between ₹22,000 and ₹23,000.
