Asian Doubles Squash Championships: Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar Reach Final, Set for Pakistan Clash
Asian Doubles Squash: The pair of Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar has delivered a stellar performance to secure a spot in the Asian Doubles Squash final. They will now face a Pakistani pair in the title match.
India is doing quite well in defending its title in the 3rd Asian Doubles Squash Championships. The top-seeded Indians, Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar, have managed to reach the finals. They will face the second-seeded Pakistani combination of Nasir Iqbal and Noor Zaman in the men's doubles final on Sunday.
On Saturday, Abhay and Velavan began their run by defeating the Japanese pairing of Naoki Hayashi and Ren Makino in a closely fought quarter-final match 11-3, 10-12, 11-5. They followed up with another victory in the semi-finals against Malaysia's Sanjay Jeeva and Duncan Lee by 11-9, 11-7.
The Indian duo has remained unbeaten during their march to the final round. They emerged victorious in Pool A when they defeated South Korea's Oh Seojin and Minwoo Lee and Hong Kong's Shing Fung Lam and Yat Long Chung in straight games. There were, however, bitter-sweet moments in the women's and mixed doubles categories where medal aspirations in both disciplines ended in the semi-finals.
