Both players had reached the knockout rounds in excellent form, remaining unbeaten in Pool B; they had topped the group by defeating pairs from Singapore and South Korea. India's second men's doubles pair, Rahul Baitha and Suraj Chand, failed to advance after suffering their second defeat in Pool B, losing to Pakistan's Nasir Iqbal and Noor Zaman. This Pakistani pair will now pose a challenge to Abhay and Velavan in their title defense.
