At the age of 86, Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata passed away late last night on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Candy Hospital in Mumbai. In the car industry, Ratan Tata has made an exceptional contribution. The skilled businessman deserves recognition for accomplishing such a feat, whether it be introducing the cheapest car in the world—the Nano—or the nation's first domestically produced automobile. The first car in India to be made in the country was introduced by Ratan Tata.

Tata Motors rolled out the first diesel hatchback car which was Tata Indica. It was totally made in India and thus also attained the title of Indigenous Car. This car was the most modern car designed by any Indian company ever. Now, coming to the price of this car, at the time of its launch, i.e., in 1998, this car was brought into the market with an initial price of merely Rs 2.6 lakh. The moment it was launched, this created ripples in the Indian market.

Within one week of its launch, the company received orders for 1 lakh 15 thousand units of this car. With this, Tata Indica reached the top position in its segment. This car gave tough competition to cars like the Maruti 800, and Maruti Zen. People were very happy with this new diesel variant as the price of diesel was very low at that time. Talking about the mileage of Tata Indica, it used to give a mileage of about 20 kilometers per liter.
