India has reduced duty on the import of overseas bourbon whiskey. The move by the Indian government has happened just when it has been alleged by US President Donald Trump that very heavy duty has been charged by India. The duty has been reduced by India on the import of bourbon whiskey on February 13.
The government has decided to reduce the import duty on bourbon whiskey from 150 percent to 100 percent. Now this whiskey will attract 50 percent custom duty and 50 percent additional duty, after which the total duty on it will be 100 percent. However, the government has not made any change in the import duty of other liquor products and they will continue to attract 150 percent duty as before. This move of the government will benefit the import of whiskey from America. Many spirits companies have already criticized the heavy import duty imposed in India.
