Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will set a new record in her name as soon as she presents the budget this time. The record for presenting the budget the most number of times is held by Morarji Desai, who presented it 10 times, but in terms of the full-time budget, now this record will be in the name of Nirmala Sitharaman.
Nirmala Sitharaman was born in the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu. Her father is Narayan Sitharaman, and her mother is Savitri Devi. Nirmala Sitharaman's father worked for Indian Railways.
She got married during her studies. Her husband's name is Parakala Prabhakar, an economist and social commentator by profession.
After marriage, she became Nirmala Sitharaman and returned to India in 1991.
Nirmala Sitharaman did her graduation from Sitalakshmi Ramasamy College. She did her post-graduate M.A. in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University. After that, she completed an MPhil.
Nirmala Sitharaman started working for PricewaterhouseCoopers International Limited. She was working here as a senior manager. After this, she was also working for BBC World Service.
In the year 2000, Nirmala Sitharaman joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. This year her elevation occurred as spokesperson of the Andra Pradesh unit. In the year 2010, she became spokesperson of the BJP. In 2016, Nirmala Sitharaman was handed over the charge as a Minister of State. Then, she was given charge as the Defense Minister. Since 2019, she has been serving as the nation's Finance Minister. Nirmala Sitharaman's contribution to the elections was enormous in 2014. She assumed charge as Minister of State in 2016. After that, she was made the second Defense Minister of the country. In 2019, Nirmala Sitharaman became the second woman Finance Minister.
