TRAI Objects to Truecaller’s ‘Frequently Blocked’ Tag on 140 & 1600 Numbers, Suggests DND Awareness
TRAI has raised objections to Truecaller tagging numbers from the 140 and 1600 series as ‘Frequently Blocked’.
According to TRAI, the telecom regulator, there was an objection against the ‘Frequently Blocked’ label provided by Truecaller for numbers in the range of 140 and 1600.
As per the regulator official, instead of using tags, Truecaller should inform users that they can block such calls using the official Do Not Disturb (DND) facility provided by TRAI. Moreover, he further stated that the remedy for it is spreading the awareness regarding the facility of DND.
It is to be noted that TRAI has made it mandatory for 1600-series numbers to make transactions and service-related calls from BFSI companies and also for government to citizen communication purposes. On the other hand, the numbers in 140 series are allocated to make promotions through registered entities.
