Cyclone 'Shakti' Moves Away from Indian Coast, State Gears Up for Rain and Damage Assessment
Cyclone Shakti has now moved towards Oman, reducing the risk of damage to Maharashtra and Gujarat. The Meteorological Department had previously warned of Shakti's impact on the northern coast of Maharashtra, but now it is predicting heavy rainfall in Vidarbha and Marathwada. Heavy rains in recent days have caused significant damage in Maharashtra.
Cyclone 'Shakti', which was moving towards the northern coast of Maharashtra, has moved towards Oman. This has reduced the risk of damage to Maharashtra and Gujarat, but the possibility of heavy rainfall in some parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada cannot be ruled out.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had warned of 'Shakti' affecting Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg between October 4 and 7. A warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall was also issued for these areas, as well as parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada in the state of Maharashtra.
According to the Meteorological Department, the cyclone was centered over the northwest and northeast Arabian Sea around 12 noon on Saturday. It was located about 420 km from Dwarka. It is reported that it is moving towards the Masirah coast of Oman.
