Modi at Ramnath Goenka Lecture: ‘Macaulay Destroyed Indian Education, We Must Undo the Damage’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged to liberate Macaulay's slavery mentality by 2035. He said that Macaulay had destroyed the Indian education system. Modi accused the Congress party of promoting Maoism and disregarding its heritage. He also criticized the RJD's "jungle raj" in Bihar and emphasized development.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has already linked the countrymen with several nationwide resolutions, right from cleanliness to self-reliant India, has now placed another resolution before the nation. He stated that, way back in 1835, British MP Macaulay initiated a strong campaign to uproot India from its roots.
Thus, it completely destroyed the Indian education system. We have to resolve in the next ten years to liberate India from the slavery mentality Macaulay has instilled into it. He called for completing this journey, which began in 1835, by 2035. Addressing the sixth Ramnath Goenka Lecture, Modi said that in 1835, British MP Macaulay declared that he would create Indians who would be Indians in appearance but English at heart.
To achieve this, Macaulay completely destroyed the Indian education system. India suffered the consequences for centuries to come. Macaulay shattered our self-confidence and instilled a sense of inferiority within us. He said that it was there that the seeds were sown that if Indians wanted to progress, they would have to adopt foreign methods.

Without naming anyone, the PM indirectly blamed previous Congress governments, saying that this sentiment grew stronger after independence. The sense of self-pride diminished. No one cared about the Swadeshi culture that Gandhiji had built as a foundation. After independence, India has attempted to disregard its own heritage. The PM said that this is why we have emphasized education in local languages in the National Education Policy.
He said that for the past five decades, nearly every major state in the country was under the grip of Maoist terrorism, but it was the country's misfortune that the Congress party continued to nurture Maoist terrorism, which negates the Indian Constitution. He alleged that the Congress not only nurtured Maoism in remote areas but also in urban areas. Congress established urban Maoists in major institutions.
The urban Maoists who had established a foothold in the Congress ten to fifteen years ago have now transformed the Congress into the Muslim League-Maoist Congress. The Muslim League-Maoist Congress has sacrificed national interests for its own selfish interests and is now posing a significant threat to the nation's unity. -----Lalu could have developed Bihar, but chose Jungle Raj. Modi, while discussing the Bihar elections, said that a strong democracy has many criteria. One such criterion is participation in democracy.
People's confidence and optimism in democracy are most evident during elections. The historic results in Bihar on November 14th were a significant reminder that the growing participation of people in democracy is undeniable. Today, the people of India trust political parties that, with sincere intentions, fulfill those aspirations and prioritize development.
I would like to humbly tell every state government and party that the Bihar results teach us that the type of government you run today will determine the future of your political party in the future. He said that the people of Bihar gave the RJD government a chance for 15 years. Lalu Yadav could have done much for Bihar's development if he wanted, but he chose the path of jungle raj. The people of Bihar can never forget this betrayal.
