Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have invested a total of Rs 26,505 crore in the stock market in the 6 trading days so far in December. Earlier in October, FPI had injected Rs 9000 crore into the market.
Before investment, FPIs had withdrawn a total of Rs 39,300 crore from the market in August and September. According to experts, FPIs may continue their investments in the coming week.
VK Vijayakumar, chief investment strategist at Geojit Financial Services, told PTI,
“Signs of political stability after the 2024 general elections, strong growth momentum in the Indian economy, moderation in inflation, sustained decline in US bond yields and improvement in Brent crude have turned the tide in India's favour.”
Himanshu Srivastava, Associate Director – Manager Research, Morningstar Investment Research India, said,
"The decline in US treasury bond yields has prompted foreign investors to reevaluate investments in Indian equity markets given the improving risk-return profile."
This time FPIs have invested in the banking sector where they were withdrawing earlier. Apart from this, FPI has also invested in large-cap segments like IT, Telecom, Automobile and Capital Goods.
As far as bonds are concerned, inflows of Rs 5,506 crore came into the debt market during the period under review. So far this year, FPIs have invested Rs 1.31 lakh crore in equity markets and Rs 55,867 crore in debt markets.
