Big Relief for Team India as Shreyas Iyer Cleared for New Zealand ODI Series
IND vs NZ ODI Series: Team India has received a major relief ahead of the ODI series against New Zealand. Vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has received fitness clearance and is fully prepared to join the Indian team after recovering from injury.
Some relief for Indian cricket supporters and Team India. Middle-order batsman and One-Day International (ODI) vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is set to play in the three-match ODI series for India against New Zealand, starting from January 11. As reported by ESPNCricinfo, Shreyas Iyer is now available to play for India as he has been given a fitness clearance by the Bengaluru-based Centre of Excellence (CoE).
Shreyas Iyer was injured in the spleen while taking a diving catch in a third ODI match in Sydney. He was admitted to the hospital because of internal bleeding. The major blow to him was that this injury kept him away from participating in both Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and ODI series between India and South Africa.
Shreyas Iyer has returned to his rhythm just before the ODI series against New Zealand. He is currently captaining Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT), where he has scored impressive scores of 82 and 45 in the last two matches. Now, upon joining the Indian team, Siddhesh Lad will replace Shreyas Iyer as Mumbai captain in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. It's worth noting that he will be Mumbai's third captain in the current season. Prior to him, Shardul Thakur and Shreyas Iyer have captained the team.
