DRDO Conducts 12-Minute Long Scramjet Combustor Test, Boosts Hypersonic Program
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a significant milestone in the development of hypersonic missiles. The Ministry of Defence stated that DRDO successfully conducted extensive long-duration ground tests of an actively cooled scramjet full-scale combustor at its state-of-the-art Scramjet Connect Pipe Test (SCPT) facility on January 9th.
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has reached a notable milestone in the development of hypersonic missiles.
According to the Ministry of Defense, DRDO has successfully carried out extensive tests on an actively cooled scramjet full-scale combustor for a duration of over 12 minutes on January 9th at its world-class Scramjet Connect Pipe Test facility.
Such an incredible feat is made possible by an ultra-modern air-breathing engine that uses supersonic combustion to support long-lasting flights.

This is a major accomplishment that follows another test with a long-duration subscale on April 25, 2025, which is an important milestone in the development of hypersonic missiles.
The combustor and testing facility were designed and developed by DRDO and executed by industry partners. This successful test has placed India at the forefront of advanced aerospace capabilities.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, industry partners, and academia for the successful ground test of the full-scale actively cooled long-duration scramjet engine. He stated that this achievement lays a solid foundation for the country's hypersonic cruise missile development program.
