India Field Six Bowlers in 1st ODI as Gill Experiments With Combinations
IND vs NZ, India vs New Zealand, 1st ODI: India won the toss and elected to bowl first. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has suffered a sudden injury and is ruled out of the entire ODI series. Dhruv Jurel has been included in the squad in his place.
The first match of three in this ODI series being played between India and New Zealand began today. In the match currently underway at BCA Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, Indian captain Shubman Gill has won the toss and decided to bowl first.
During the toss, Gill said, "We have a good opportunity today to try different combinations and see which one works best for the team. Bowling in the evening will be challenging due to the dew, while batting becomes a little easier in the daylight and after the dew has settled in. All the players have been in good form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and the atmosphere in the team is very positive. We are fielding six bowlers today. The spin department consists of Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav, while Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Harshit Rana will handle the fast bowling."
Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell said, "We also wanted to bowl first, but batting on this wicket feels good. We've grown accustomed to the Indian weather and conditions, and we've had some excellent sessions in the nets. This is an important series for us; playing for New Zealand is always a matter of pride. It will also be a big advantage in our preparations for the World Cup in India. There are some new faces in the team, but there's no shortage of experience. A slight change in the batting order is possible. Christian Clarke is making his ODI debut today, while Aditya Ashok will be our main spin bowler."
