Urvashi Rautela Turns EDM Singer With ‘Heart Controller’

A Song About a Name

The song’s title comes from Urvashi’s interpretation of her own name. “Urvashi is the title. In the reading from which I built the song, Ur is the heart and Vashi the controller. Hence Heart Controller. I am not describing another woman. I am singing the name,” she said.

She added that the lyrics reach into Indian mythology and heritage. “Heard against the lyric, it opens onto the Mahabharata, onto lineage and grace, onto Indian culture and Indian tradition, and onto the name I carry,” she said, adding that her surname, Rautela, is also written into the verse.

In Hindu mythology, Urvashi is a celestial apsara who appears in ancient texts, including the Mahabharata, which gives the song’s theme its mythological layer.

Why It Matters: Actors Finding a Second Voice

More Bollywood actors are exploring music beyond playback, from independent singles to their own albums. Urvashi’s move into EDM, a genre usually led by DJs and producers, is an attempt to carve a distinct space. How listeners receive it will decide whether it becomes a lasting second career or a one-off experiment.

She said the track was made with Oriental House and producers she named as Asln and Timor Jana. “Those who have already heard the record have received it warmly. That is sufficient,” she said.

Her Film Journey

Urvashi made her Bollywood debut opposite Sunny Deol in Singh Saab the Great and has appeared in films such as Sanam Re, Great Grand Masti and Hate Story 4, along with a special appearance in the song ‘Mon Amour’ from Kaabil.

The Bottom Line

With ‘Heart Controller’, Urvashi Rautela has turned her name into a song and herself into an EDM vocalist, betting that listeners will connect with both the beat and the story behind it.
