Election Commission has made a significant decision and enhanced the honorarium of the election officers. The Commission has enhanced the pay of presiding officers, polling officers, counting staff, micro observers, and other officers.
Besides this, the honorarium of Deputy District Election Officers, CAPF staff, and sector officers has also been enhanced. Moreover, the rates for food and refreshments for polling or counting duty have also been enhanced.
The letter from the Election Commission points out that the elections are a range of activities undertaken by the election machinery that comprises officers and employees recruited from the different departments of the Central Government, State Governments, PSUs, local bodies, etc.
During the election period, the entire machinery deployed at the ground level performs difficult and sensitive duties, which last for long hours and continue even for several months, to ensure a conducive environment in which voters can exercise their franchise and elect a government of their choice.
To ensure that the personnel deployed on election duty get proper remuneration, the Commission has decided to revise the rates of remuneration/honorarium paid to the personnel deployed on election duty. The last such major revision in honorarium was done between 2014 and 2016.
