The case of the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata RG Kar Medical College is gaining momentum. Condemning the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata, experts on Monday stressed the need for the safety of doctors.

Ishwar Gilada, who heads the doctors' organization Organized Medicine Academic Guild-OMAG, said in this case, 'This is nothing new. Many attacks and issues related to the safety of doctors keep happening every day. 'We strongly oppose such incidents, and request that there should be no politicization of it.' He then added, "The safety and security of the doctor should be of paramount importance."

The experts also raised concerns about the lack of security in hospitals. They said, "Proper restrooms should be provided for doctors on duty. Doctors work round the clock and have no choice but to sleep or rest in designated rooms. Unfortunately, these rooms may be located in remote corners of large buildings. Sleep is a necessary bodily function, and a tired doctor often has no choice but to sleep wherever he finds space."

No restrooms are provided for doctors on duty. The security situation in government hospitals is pathetic. Anyone can go inside hospitals, wards, corridors, and buildings. Most places also lack surveillance like CCTV cameras, if they are available, they are mostly faulty. We request the authorities to take strict action, settle the matter quickly, and give the highest possible punishment.

The experts also suggested self-defense training for doctors. At the same time, doctors across the country are protesting on a large scale. A 31-year-old PGT doctor on duty in the state was brutally murdered after allegedly being sexually assaulted on Thursday night. Since then, there has been anger among the doctors of the hospital.
