The faith of foreign investors has increased in the Indian markets. According to data from National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL), foreign investors have made record-breaking investments in Indian markets in May 2025. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have made a net investment of Rs 19,860 crore this month. This has been the highest monthly investment so far this year.

Foreign investors invested Rs 6,024.77 crore in the Indian markets in the week between May 26 and May 30. NSDL said that positive investment was seen these days. But on Friday, selling of Rs 1,758.23 crore was seen.

Despite this strong monthly performance, total FPI investment in 2025 remains in negative territory. From January to May, there was a sale of Rs 92,491 crore. However, the boom in Indian markets in May indicated a change in the sentiment of foreign investors.

Weakness in the dollar created opportunities for Indian markets. India's strong economic fundamentals have been attracting global investors. However, volatility remains likely due to global uncertainty. Data from previous months shows that FPIs sold shares worth Rs 3,973 crore in March. At the same time, shares worth Rs 78,027 crore and Rs 34,574 crore were sold in January. Last Friday, the Indian market closed in the red in the last trading session of May. The 30-share BSE Sensex closed 182.01 points or 0.22 percent lower at 81,451.01. NSE Nifty fell 82.90 points or 0.33 per cent to 24,750.70.
