A man in Texas, USA, died last week while working at a Tesla factory in the Austin area. His family has sued the electric vehicle company and his employer.

The lawsuit states that employee Victor Joe Gomez Sr. was at the plant on August 1 to inspect electrical panels before they were turned on. But Gomez, who is an electrician, did not know that the panel was already on, and when he inspected it he "immediately received an electric shock" and fell unconscious.

The filing said the man was removed from the scene to Dell Seton Medical Center by Austin-Travis County EMS, where he was declared deceased.

It is demanding more than $1 million in damages as part of the lawsuit, which was filed on August 6 in Travis County, Texas. The lawsuit also has asked Tesla to preserve the panel, any surveillance footage, and any other possible evidence related to the incident.

Tesla could not be reached immediately for comment, the report said. The family has also filed a lawsuit against Tesla subsidiary Colorado River Project LLC and Belcan Services Group LP, the man's employer.

The filing alleges that the electric panel "created an unreasonable risk of harm" and that the defendants knew or "reasonably should have known" about the dangerous condition and did not warn Gomez.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has also said it is investigating the incident.
