Despite the controversy surrounding the new definition of the Aravalli Range, the Central Government has reaffirmed its commitment towards its conservation as it is working at a fast pace towards it, as it also happens to be one of the oldest ranges in the world.

Union Forest & Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav said that in the Aravalli ranges, thousands of hectares of land have been turned green in the past two to three years.

In addition, there is a campaign initiated as part of the Aravalli Green Wall Project to green 2.7 million hectares of degraded areas of the Aravalli Range, which is distributed over Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.

Every state and every district is working on this initiative at its level. The Union Minister made this announcement while addressing a national conference on eco-restoration of the Aravalli landscape in Delhi on Wednesday. The focus was on strengthening the Aravalli Green Wall Project.

Meanwhile, a report on conservation efforts in four villages along the Aravalli Range has been presented by the Haryana government, Denmark, and a non-governmental organization. This report has been presented as a model project for the conservation of the Aravalli Range. The conference was attended by Haryana Forest and Environment Minister Rao Narveer Singh, along with officials and experts from all 37 districts within the Aravalli Range.

Addressing the conference, the Union Minister stated that the government has committed to protecting 26 million hectares of degraded land in the country by 2030 under the UNCCD (United Nations Conservation to Combat Desertification) program. The Aravalli Green Wall Project is also included in this initiative.

He stated that "6.45 million hectares of degraded land have been identified in the Aravalli range under this initiative, which includes land in Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

This work is being carried out under the supervision of forest division officers from 29 districts. They have been instructed to focus on planting native species instead of Kikar trees and to develop nurseries accordingly."

The Union Minister shared this information about the progress and plan for Aravalli conservation at a time when a controversy has recently arisen regarding the definition of the Aravalli mountain range. However, the Supreme Court later stayed its order in this regard.
