Apple and Meta working on humanoid AI robots, will compete with Tesla's robot
AI Robot: According to the report, Meta has created a new department in its Reality Labs hardware division, which is working specifically on the development of AI humanoid robots. At the same time, Apple is adopting a different strategy in this direction and its robot is being developed by its Machine Learning group.

Apple and Meta, which are competing with each other in the market of Mixed Reality headsets, will now encounter each other face to face in yet another realm too. The two companies are building AI-based humanoid robots. It is reported by Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman that both companies are building AI-based humanoid robots of their own.
According to the report, daily activities like folding a t-shirt, dancing, or boiling an egg will be achievable through these humanoid robots. It is immediately brought to mind that of Tesla's Optimus robot, although Gurman is making a point of comparing this Apple venture to that of the Tesla Bot specifically.
Meta aims to make software that can be used by developers of AI humanoid robots. The company, founded by Mark Zuckerberg, is hopeful that its experience in managing mixed reality sensors, and computing, and its Llama AI model will give it competitively advantageous conditions.
The report also states that Meta is already discussing the project with China's Unitary Robotics and Figure AI. Figure AI is also considered a direct competitor of Tesla. On the other hand, Apple is developing its AI humanoid robot to demonstrate its AI potential and cutting-edge technology. The project is being prepared by Apple's advanced AI research teams.
At the We, Robot event in October 2024, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that AI humanoid robots would soon walk among humans and become a part of household life. He specifically talked about Tesla Bots. Musk said, "Optimus will walk among you. You can walk up to it and it will serve you a drink."
Musk claims that Optimus is capable of doing almost everything—from walking a pet dog to babysitting, mowing the lawn, and serving drinks. According to Musk, the estimated cost of a humanoid robot would be between $20,000 and $30,000. He has called it the "most important product" he has ever made.
